Laundry Detergent...homemade

Yup, that's right. I made our laundry detergent which should last us a little more than half a year (all 4 gallons of it). It was really quite simple (as Kristen said it would be)...only took me maybe 15 minutes. The hardest part was grating the bar of soap. I think my bar of soap was just too big or too thick. I don't know. I'm pretty sure my arms will be sore when I wake up in the morning. It is made but I have to let it rest until tomorrow. So we will see if it really worked, tomorrow morning. Oh, if you want to get the recipe I used...go here. (I used recipe #2) I bought the 5 gallon bucket at Walmart for $3 and I will put the detergent in an old Tide container that I'll rinse out.
bucket filled 1/2 way with warm water

water + grated soap melting in the pan
my store bought ingredients

while filling the bucket up with the sprayer at my sink it foamed up

Next homemade item will be dishwashing detergent. I've made it a year ago so I'm going to try and make it again. It just requires the top ingredients in the laundry detergent, minus the bar of soap. If you decide to make this at home...post a comment, I wanna hear about your adventure!

I thought about trying this not too long ago, but I never found the Borax anywhere. Where did you find it?

Hmm, maybe I just didn't look in the right place. I'll look again!

It was where the detergent was...near the fabric softener I think.

Ok, I am going to be trying this! I feel like all I do is do laundry and I hate paying what it cost to pay for the detergent. I will attempting this this weekend. Thanks Lauren

Sure, no problem Shannon! Mine ended up smelling good but I've been adding fabric softener with it for that extra softness & smell. :)
